A dark tabby tom was crouched behind a gorse bush. His pelt was bristled, anticipating his prey. A rabbit was nibbling on some clover several taillengths away, ignorant of the predator waiting to kill it. Darksight unsheathed his claws, letting them sink into the dirt and tear through the grass. WindClan's way of hunting wasn't so bad. Actually, he preferred it to his former Clan's style of hunting. He hadn't really been cut out for fishing and swimming, but he felt like a true warrior here along the moors. The breeze and open plain gave him freedom, and he relished in this new liberty. The rabbit froze, suddenly catching a scent on the wind. Ha, that was how Darksight had found this bunny in the first place. His sense of smell was terrific, and the gusts had carried it right to him. The rabbit took one step and Darksight sensed it. NOW! He sprang out from behind the gorse, and streaked towards his prey. It didn't have a chance. He was small like the WindClan cats, and just as fast and agile. He couldn't have done this back in the forest: too many trees, or he would have fell into the river. He gained on the rabbit in a matter of seconds, it was almost too easy. The rabbit's desperate bounds thundered in his ears, along with its rapid heatbeat and swift breaths. With a burst of power, he kicked off his backlegs, forcing him forward. The distance between the two was cut in half, and with another bound, Darksight was on top of it. He slipped his sharp teeth into the rabbit's neck, and it kicked a couple times, its last desperate struggle against death, before dangling still in his jaws. Pride surged through the hunter, pleased he could at last catch his own prey. No Clan cat could mock him now.

"Good job!" called Whiteflower, padding down toward Darksight. She dropped the plump pigeon she'd leapt for a short distance way. "That was great. I hope you didn't mind me watching. It's almost easier to hunt here, you know? Now that I've got the hang of it, that is. Rabbits are still challenging - I talked to Redstorm yesterday about it and he said I was waiting too long. I can't help it, really, though. I'm too used to sitting waiting for the fish to show up." She'd always felt sort of close to Darksight; they shared a common enemy - disability. His was more severe, but she'd always looked to him for inspiration, as he was battling through his blindness. Even though she was eight moons older than him, he seemed at times more mature than she; her own half-deafness she had thought normal, thought that no cat could hear when one specific ear was crushed against the ground in sleep, until the medicine cat had told her otherwise. She had just been apprenticed and the news was devastating. She didn't know that they'd let her continue - a half deaf cat could kill in battles, or be killed. Without the ability to hear if one ear was blocked or was turned away, the thought was that she'd be confused. She also was less able to hunt, because it was harder to pinpoint by sound where prey was. Thank StarClan for sight and clear moors. She blinked at Darksight, instantly kicking herself mentally for her slip.

Darksight set down the rabbit and shrugged. "I don't mind really. I don't mind YOU!" he mewed with a smile. "Those WindClan cats get on my nerves a bit. They're almost as judgemental as RiverClan, but I'll show them! We all will. I agree, the precious rabbits aren't that bad. They have nothing to be all snooty about now!" He didn't reply to her other comment, about her problem with rabbit hunting compared fishing. He didn't know how to fish. "It's not bad here either. A bit chillier and breezier, but I like how open it is. It's like... we're in the sky sort of." His silver eyes were shining. He was obviously very happy being here.

Agreeably, Whiteflower nodded. "We'll get just as good as them, maybe better." Her eyes shone proudly. He was right about the sky - it felt so close, like it was pushing on her fur, smothering her yet at the smae time setting her free.

Darksight nodded. He swung his head around, scenting for prey again. "Whiteflower?" he mewed awkwardly. He turned his head around, fixing his silver eyes on hers, as if he wasn't blind at all. "I, uh, never really had a hunting partner before, but well, since were both out here now, will you be mine? Noone really believes I can hunt anyway."

Purring, Whiteflower nodded. "I'll be your eyes, and you'll be my ears?" she offered. All RiverClan knew her deafness. She padded past him, brushing her fur comfortingly against his side. She gazed over the land, searching for any prey. Inhaling deeply, she shrugged and glanced back toward the blind tom.

(lol its okay hawky. hmmm, weeeeeeeeeell, if you want them too.... I agree! ) Darksight laughed, "Sure, sounds great." His pelt tingled a bit, and he slowly turned his head, listening to the wind. The breeze carried faraway messages to him. "I think I hear something towards the river," he said after a moment.

Whiteflower purred and headed toward it, being sure to have him be close enough. The river smelled strong enough, and she knew where they were headed anyway.

Darksight kept pace with her. He figured she would pick the path most easily traveled, but he could handle it anyway. He didn't smell or sense anything in front of him. No gorse bushes or heather patches in his way. And he could usually smell the bark and moss on the trees too, but they weren't their yet. "I kind of miss our old camp. WindClan's is nice and airy, but ours was so pretty, or so they said. Pebbles lined the dens and feathers were woven among the bramble and gorses of the dens' roof. RiverClan has a sense of beauty that the other Clans' lack. We admire nature for what it truly is. Our warriors reflect it. Their sleek, shining pelts mirror the river. You know what I mean?"

"Oh, yes," purred Whiteflower, nodding. She took careful steps, then leapt over a fallen branch. "Watch out," she warned. "I love the airiness, but I miss the sparkling, shiny (VAMPIRES! XD) dens and camp. The water rushing past, casting gleams of sunlight into my sight, the rolling waves. I miss it."

(lol nice.)
Darksight didn't comment until his whiskers brushed bark, and he backed up and took a flying leap, landing neatly on the other side of the log. "Thanks," he mewed. "And yes, it really sounded beautiful and wonderful. The river is a part of us we can't deny or forget. Even I miss it, you know. I love the sound of the river, almost like its talking to me, whispering or singing. But I feel so much more confident here. I feel like a real warrior rather than the Clan misfit that every cat pities!" His tone came out a bit sharper than he had intended, and took a breath. "Sorry. But it's true, I know it is. I can hunt as good as any cat now. I belong here, I know it."

Whiteflower paused, letting him bump into her hindquarters. Turning, she touched her muzzle to his. "I don't pity you, Darksight," she mewed softly, more of an escaping breath than a long, enunciated statement.

"I know," breathed Darksight, his fur prickling at her touch. He felt a rush of warmth, and felt the urge to let some of his feelings out. He trusted Whiteflower like noone else. "That's what I like about you, Whiteflower. You're different than other cats, unique... I love that about you. You understand and you don't judge me like the others."
