"Then you will train as a medicine cat, learning in the steps of StarClan." Graymouse, Falconpaw, and Owlpaw started to chant, but Flightstar raised her tail for silence. "We have another few ceremonies to conduct. All of our apprentices are currently mentorless, but we do not have enough warriors to have a single mentor for them all. Jetpaw. You are without a mentor now that we have come here. I will take over your mentoring." Before the cats had a chance to process her words, she plunged on. "Lionpaw. You are without a mentor now that we have come here. Hollowecho, you are prepared to be a mentor, and are capable of training this apprentice as he must to be successful here. You will be mentor to Lionpaw." SHe settled her loving gaze on Owlpaw now. "Owlpaw, you are, as well, without a mentor. Crabclaw, you are a capable mentor. You will be mentor to Owlpaw. Falconpaw will be without a single mentor, and will be shuttled between the warriors, receiving training from all." Leaping down, she reached down to touch noses with Jetpaw, her long announcement finished.

Hollowecho looked startled. He barely knew the warrior code, how could he mentor a young cat in the ways of it? But surely he could ask FLightstar for help from time to time, and Lionpaw could learn that by hanging out with the other Clan cats. Hunting would be no issue, and the gray tom wasn't too bad of a fighter. He stepped forward to meet the golden tom, and glanced around, suddenly unsure. Flightstar had touched noses with Jetpaw. Was he supposed to do that with Lionpaw?
Bronzepaw stepped away, out of the center of the clearing to make room for the other apprentices. It was about time they received mentors. Swiftwater chanted the long list of names, "Bronzepaw! Jetpaw! Lionpaw! Owlpaw! Falconpaw!" x2 please lol

Lionpaw whispered quietly, "We touch noses while they cheer." He did so, watching his sister with a slight pang of jealousy. She had the leader, but he got a mentor who was from here and could show him the special ways of this place. Jetpaw's chest swelled with pride. Flightstar! As my mentor! Her eyes shone as she touched noses with Flightstar.

The pale she-cat blinked at her new apprentice, delighted, and stepped away, flicking her ears. "Well, Jetpaw. How are you and what would you like to do?"

Jetpaw grinned. "I'm fabulous. But, you're the mentor. Shouldn't you pick what we do? Duskstripe always did," she grumbled, thinking of her mentor in ShadowClan who'd been killed in the battle.

"Oh," mumbled Hollowecho, embarrassed. Why had Flightstar chosen him? He felt so awkward and humilated, and he didn't like it. He touched noses with Lionpaw, and stepped back. What did he know about Clan ways? All his optimisism was fading. "So, er... do you want to go hunting or something?" He looked uncomfortable, as if he were regretting joininh TideClan in the first place.

Lionpaw frowned slightly. "Sure," he said cautiously. "Is something wrong?"
(This would be a cute time for a 'mentors-can-learn-from-their-apprentices' moment.)

(lol yes it would.) "Yes, there is," replied Hollowecho. "Let's be honest here... I can teach you to hunt and a bit of fighting, but that's it. And you've already explained there is more to being a warrior than that. I... I wouldn't be offended if you asked Flightstar for another mentor. Maybe she can take on two, or... Or Starlingnight of Graymouse. Go on, go ask her," he mewed, eyes empty of emotion, and his mew was husky. He would love the chance to teach a young cat, but it wouldn't be fair to young Lionpaw. He deserved a real mentor.

"Why would I do that? I already know the warrior code. I spent a moon sitting around in the nursery learning it from the other apprentices. All I need is to learn to hunt and fight. I can teach you the code, too, if you want," he said, the words tumbling out in a jumble.

Hollowecho sighed in relief, for several reasons. He felt better, more capable of doing this and happy Lionpaw wasn't yet ready to give up on him. "Really? You would do that? I would feel like a true warrior if I knew this code of yours."

Lionpaw nodded solemnly. "Mentors are not the only teachers. The relationship works both ways."

"I could definitely work with this. Alight then," he meowed, feeling a bit more confident already. "Thanks, Lionpaw. What were we going to do? Hunting?"

Lionpaw shrugged. "Your decision, I guess. You're the mentor."

"Let's going hunting then. You can't go wrong with prey," purred Hollowecho. "Honestly, can you tell me what your weaknesses are? And you're strengths? It will help to determine what really needs to be practiced, right?" Pick me! Pick me!
