Aspenfeather padded through the winding streams, scanning for horsetail. Her ears were pricked, and despite her awkward limp, she determinedly searched, finally setting her gaze on the herbs, about to gnaw off the bottom of the stalk near the roots when a rustling of bushes startled her.

(sorry im not halopaw, lol) 'Oh, shoot. It got away. Hello, Aspenfeather. Sorry, I was just chasing a rabbit but it vanished. I hope I didn't scare you. Pleasant weather we're having though, eh? Probably the last of the season," meowed Briarstar, flicking his tail.

She blinked at him. "Hi. yeah, I wish it would last, but soon we'll have snow." her face twisted into annoyance and she flattned her ears as though snow were a threat she could face with tooth and claw. She wished it was. "Since you're here, you want to help?"

Halopaw crawled through the long grass and then jumped lightly on her mentor."Got you,"she purred.

Aspenfeather jumped out of her skin, not hearing her apprentice coming, and sprang into the air, arching her back, making it nearly impossible for a small cat to hold on. The most terrified and violent might be able to, but it would be hard.

She didn't do it that hard!)
Halopaw giggled inside but then helped her mentor to the ground.

ooc: Aspenfeather wasn't expected it and just jumped. Like me, when she jumps, she JUMPS.
bic: "Halopaw! In the name of StarClan!" her eyes were wide, but she was steadily going back to her normal, relaxed state. "Okay. Help me with this horsetail."

"Well, not that your apprentice is here, I'm hoping I'm off the hook," Briarstar commented, a teasing look in his green eyes. "However, the more the merrier. If you want help, just tell me what I'm looking for... oh, er and what it looks like."

Aspenfeather purred, amused by the leader. "We're getting horsetail right now, as you can see, but we also need some borage. It does grow around here, but it won't be instantly in sight - the water can be too much. It's dark green and kind of furry. Tell me if you find some - only the leaves, by the way; we don't need anymore than that." She turned back to the horsetail and crouched, gnawing at the stalk, just above the root.

"Okay," replied Briarstar. He padded along the water then, careful not to sink into the mud and get stuck, just shirting the edge. A furry plant? That sounded kind of funny. He sniffed the air but had no clue what to look for. He smelled mouse though. But today he was hunting for herbs. Something brushed his paw, and it felt a bit like a mouse. He bent his head, and studied a dark green leaf. "Um, is this it? I'm afraid to pick it."

the horsetail fell, tipping toward the water, but she lunged forward, gripping it with her forepaws and keeping it out. She pulled it out and dropped it in the pile that was slowly accumulating. She padded over, crouching and sniffing. "Good!" she exclaimed. "Just a few leaves, not too much."

"Er, alrighty then," Briarstar reached down and gently pulled the leaves, careful not to tear the gentle plants or leave any useful pieces behind. "Ugh, it tastes really bitter!"

Amused, Aspenfeather purred. "That it is," she agreed, returning to her own horsetail.

After he had a little bunch, he scooped them all up and carried them over to the medicine cat. "Well, here you go. This is an interesting day. So I've gone from kit to apprentice, warrior, deputy, leader, and medicine cat. Oh, and mentor of course." He purred, and added, "Anything else I can do?"
