(next day) Flamestreak woke up by the sound of singing birds. He stretched then walked to the middle of the camp waiting for his apprentice and Rivershadow.

Rivershadow emerged from the warriors' den, Iriswhisker padding behind him with an annoyed look in her violet eyes. "But I don't see why you have to go!" "Please keep your voice down!" hissed Rivershadow. "I don't want to wake up Sparrowwing. I'll only be gone a moon at the most! I don't want the sadness in her eyes to be the last thing I see of her... for awhile," he added when Iriswhisker bristled. "I will be back. This is my home, and it always will be. I just need to now.." he turned to meet the black she-cat's gaze. "I will never forget what you've done for me. You were my mother when Swiftwater wasn't there. I love you for that, and I always will, but let me do this for me. She can't replace you, either." Iriswhisker sighed, her anger fading. "I know, I know. I'm just... jealous of all. Even still, Swiftwater has a bond with you that I don't. I could never have given birth to a son as brave and noble as you. I'll miss you too, and don't worry, I'll keep an eye on your girlfriend. But don't blame me if she's angry at you too when you come back!" Rivershadow blushed but nodded. "Thanks, Iriswhisker. But if you understand, I think she will, too." He turned towards the deputy. "I'm ready when you are."
"I'm here, I'm here!" yowled Lynxpaw loudly, bursting out of the apprentices' den into the clearing, eyes shining with excitement and impatience.

Flamestreak hushed,"Calm down,"He looked at the leader's den and could hear Brightstar still snoring."Let's get out of camp quickly and quietly,"he mewed to the apprentice and warrior.

"Wait, you did tell Brightstar, didn't you?!" murmered Rivershadow, eyes widening with anxiety. This sounded sneaky. But then again, there was no need to wake the whole game.
Lynxpaw made a face but silently.
