Flamestreak waited for his new apprentice. While he waited he remembered about Gingerstep being his apprentice and thought about the good old times.

The black-spotted she-cat skidded around an oak tree, caught sight of Flamestreak, and bounded towards him. "Sorry... I'm... la-OW!" She hadn't been paying attention and a root snagged her paws and she tumbled into the clearing at her mentor's feet. She glanced up at him, embarrassed by her klutziness. "Sablerose asked me to fetch her a bite to eat," she finished, her pelt prickling.

" Oh did she?,"Flamestreak asked his apprentice."Well I guess we can start with hunting first,"he mewed."Show me what you think you can do,"Flamestreak gave his instructions.

Lynxpaw nodded eagerly, glad he hadn't scolded or punished her. She jumped back, and settled into the hunter's crouch - almost every kit knew it by the time they were apprenticed, the basics anyway. She kept twitching her tail, and even she knew her weight was mostly in her front paws...

"Bend down more and your tail lower,"he gave.

Lynxpaw did as she was told, and sure enough, her weight evened out. She kept her tail still and glanced at Flamestreak, waiting for approval.

Lynxpaw creeped forward, keeping her paws light, tail still, then pounced, catching a brown leaf between her paws. "Ha! Caught ya!" she purred.

"More effort and have more fun,"he gave."Now try again,"he mewed.

Lynxpaw twitched her tail, slightly frustrated, how could this be more fun? But she sank into the crouch again, this time stalking faster and quieter, making her pounce smoother and lighter. This time she landed on a bug, accidently squishing it under her paws. "Eww, bug guts!" she squealed, then burst into giggles.

"Wonderful,"he mewed."Did you feel the difference,"he asked.

Lynxpaw bobbed her head up and down, eyes shining. "Yeah, I think so, Flamestreak. What's next?"

"How about we test if your pounce is good enough,"he mewed."Go catch a mouse"

Lynxpaw did a little twirl but heading into the woods. She sniffed around a clump of ferns, then a bramble bush, finally settling on a fresh mouse trail... relatively fresh... She followed it over tree roots, weaving between plants... before her was a mouse nibbling on a seed on a large, flat stone. The sun was out and shining, and it was a perfect sunbathing spot. Lynxpaw decided she would claim the spot as soon as she had the mouse. Little did she know there was another creature with its narrowed eyes on that mouse... there was a flash of diamond-backed skin, the sound of scales against stone...
