Mouseleaf twitched his ears, not willing to say anything. He didn't like it when cats acted as though the ShadowClan warriors would be traitors just because they weren't born ThunderClan, but he wouldn't say anything to his leader.
Darkberry padded toward the patrol. Having heard her words, his fur bristled, but he flattened it carefully, glancing at Riverpaw encouragingly. The young apprentice would need careful mentoring, sure, but he would make a great warrior for ThunderClan someday. The fact that Brightstar had taken him as her apprentice should have proved she trusted him... she didn't trust Darkberry. That realization settled instantly into him, clutching at his heart. Because he'd been deputy? Was that it? Shaking his head, the warrior decided it would be his job to prove to her that ShadowClan could be loyal to their new Clan.

Iriswhisker flicked her tail, understanding Brightstar's gesture and pleased. She decided it would be a nice day to bask in the sun. Leafbare was coming...
"Hello, Darkberry," Riverpaw mewed politely, dipping his head to the older warrior. "Er, can I ask you something?" he looked a bit uncomfortable but he had to know.

"Of course," he replied, nodding. Darkberry was always willing to answer questions.

"Did you know my father, Duskfall?" Riverpaw mewed. (you could say yes or no, doesnt matter. I never played Duskfall and he wasnt very important. all i said was he was ShadowClan, fell in love with a RiverClan she-cat, Swiftwater, when the clans united, and this resulted in Riverpaw.)

"Yes, I did," mewed Darkberry calmly. "I was ShadowClan's deputy, I had to be familiar with the warriors. What do you want to know?" His eyes were calm, his gaze steely.

"Really? That's cool." Riverpaw didn't ask why Darkberry had left; his reasons were probably the same as the other former ShadowClan cats. It must have been harder for him to abandon his leader though. "Well, I was just... What kind of warrior was he like? I get the impression everyone thinks my parents were traitors. But Stonestar and Brightstar had already combined their Clans, and they became mates after that. They chose to leave, I understand that, and I'm not judging them for that. They believed it was the right thing to do. I was just wondering, really, what was your opinion on it all. Were they traitors?"

"No. They weren't traitors. Every cat that left had their own reasons. It was tempting to remain loyal to our leaders, to support their choices, but it was also true that it would mean abandoning StarClan and the warrior code. Some cats left not because they wanted to follow their leaders, but because they couldn't bear the thought of living with former enemies. Does that make sense?" he asked, studying Riverpaw.

Riverpaw nodded. "Yes, I think so. Thanks, Darkberry, I knew you wisedom would make be feel better. I kind of miss Swiftwater, you know. But, well, Iriswhisker is kinda taking care of me now. And I love ThunderClan way more than I ever cared about RiverClan or ShadowClan." The apprentice jumped to his paws and swished his tail, eyes bright and much happier now.
