"But what if you need help? What if something happens to your territory?" Jetpaw pointed out. "There are always Clans around to help you--we're not always enemies," Lionpaw explained.

Before Hollowecho could answer, a heavy-set tom floundered up out of the shallows and collapsed, exhausted, onto the beach. His coat shone with water running off, and he braced his forelegs against the pebbly sand, pushing his front end up. He blinked a moment, confused, and then spat angrily. "Fox dung! Sorry, Jetpaw, Lionpaw!" The tom barely recognized the two apprentices from where he lay, but he couldn't recognize the warrior with them at all. "I don't mean to be in TideClan territory. I was swimming under the sun rise and I guess I got too far out, because I got pushed all the way down here by a terrible current." He slid back to the ground, tired. The former RiverClan warrior hung around his Clanmates' new territory, but he didn't usually intrude. He'd tried to fight that rip current for a long distance, and it had taken a lot out of him. It was Birchfire.

Hollowecho had opened his mouth to comment, but it dropped, shocked at the sudden appearance of Birchfire. "Whoa! What were you doing so close to the water, then? These waters aren't near as calm and gentle as your rivers and streams. I'm going to take a good guess you three have met before." He glanced at the apprentices then padded over and gently but firmly sank his teeth into the loner's scruff and pulled him out of reach of the treacherous waves.

"Thanks," panted Birchfire. "Who are you, by the way?"

"My name is Hollowecho. I'm pretty new to TideClan, but I lived my whole life by the sea. Or I will, because I don't plan on leaving here," the gray tom meowed, dipping his head politely. "My I ask who you are?"

He blinked seawater out of his eyes and stared at the warrior, as though not quite there. "Oh - I'm Birchfire. I used to be a RiverClan cat before the schism. Then I made it out here and decided not to stay with the Clan."

"Oh." Hollowecho's eyes widened. "That happens? Er, sorry, it's just, well, I find that hard to believe. I didn't think a Clan cat would trade in this life for that of a boring old loner's." (Birchfire might change his perspective of things. this is good, though, helps him really see both sides...)

Birchfire staggered to his paws. "Well, it doesn't happen often - but it does happen. The weird thing is that I've been a warrior for a few moons - that's different. Usually it's just because the cat isn't suited to Clan life and leaves before thir warrior name, or soon after. Sometimes they follow love. Me, I was just tired with drama. I mean, the fights were starting to wear me thin, the fling between Stonestar and Brightstar angered me... You know? I was done with drama." The white and ginger cat shrugged, blinking

Jetpaw nodded. "I remember you, from that last Gathering, and the journey. You were always a little distant."

"My life was too dull. I needed "drama", purred Hollowecho. But he didn't resent Birchfire and could kind of see his point. "MAybe you should come back to camp and see the medicine cat."

"Nope," mewed Birchfire, shoving himself shakily to his paws and shaking, salty water spinning off him.

Lionpaw frowned. "You should see the medicine cat, Birchfire," Jetpaw warned. Lionpaw nodded. "She's right. You almost drowned, whether you will admit it or not."

"Okay, okay," succumbed the multicolored tom. He moved forward, then blinked. "I thought you didn't have one now, though?"

Lionpaw shook his head. "Bronzepaw is our new medicine cat. He's being trained by Goldensea."
Jetpaw nodded seriously. "I went to him the other day, for my stomach ache. I swallowed some saltwater when I was swimming," she said, daring someone to laugh at her with a fierce gaze.
Her golden twin frowned. "You were swimming alone? In the ocean?" His voice was incredulous and furious at the same time.
"I am not your kit," Jetpaw protested hotly. "You don't have the right to protect me like this. You're not my mother."
Lionpaw growled low in his throat. "Yes I do, I'm your brother, and I'm older than you. Who else is going to look out for you? You refuse to do it yourself, and you continually do reckless things!"
Jetpaw burned with dark fury as she spat at him. "I am not reckless. You think you know everything because you are a tom, but let me tell you something right now, and don't you forget it! I. Am. Not. Your. Responsibility. So stop making such a fuss!"

Amused, Birchfire dashed his gaze between the two cats, flipping his view every few moments to follow the conversation. "Wait, I thought Goldensea died," the tom suddenly commented, breaking into their argument.
